Pre-Treatment Care.
Please use the following guidelines to maximize the effectiveness of each treatment
Apply moisturizing cream on the area to be treated every day, twice a day, for the 7 days leading up to each appointment. Electrolysis is most effective when the hair follicles are well hydrated, so we cannot stress this point enough!
Drink plenty of water every day, not just before you come to the office. If it is very cold or hot outside, water with electrolytes is recommended.
Avoid caffeine on the day of and the day before your appointment. Caffeine can stimulate nerve endings, making you more sensitive to treatment.
Avoid rushing prior to your appointment which can make you tense and nervous. Arrive at the office early to allow yourself ample time to relax.
If you are very sensitive, take Tylenol 20 minutes prior to your treatment to decrease your sensitivity.
If your treatment area includes the eyebrow, please remove your contact lenses before the treatment.
The following products are contraindicated for use with electrolysis, and their use should be discontinued prior to each appointment by the periods given: Accutane (6 to 8 months), Retin A (5 weeks), Hydroquinone (3 months).
Bathe prior to your appointment as needed to ensure a hygienic treatment area.
Post-Treatment Care.
After an electrolysis treatment, proper hygiene is essential to help your skin heal. This begins in our office, where we perform cataphoresis to soothe the skin and provide anti-bacterial protection. We also apply Gala's Yi-Zhi Baume cream to promote quick healing and Epionce’s after care treatment.
After you leave the office, it is best to avoid touching or aggravating the treated area for at least 24-48 hours. Depending on your individual skin type, you may see some redness and a small amount of swelling after treatment. Some people may also notice some small crusts over treated hair follicles. This is normal. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us.
To hasten the healing process, please follow these post-treatment care instructions:
Wash your hands thoroughly before touching the treated area.
Use a cotton pad to dab the treated area with Alcohol several times a day for three of four days.
Apply Epionce After Care Treatment twice a day for four to five days or as needed.
Apply sunscreen liberally to the treated area, especially if you have sensitive and/or pigmented skin.
Avoid any friction.
Avoid contact with oily, perfumed or alcohol-based products.
Avoid tanning, exercise, hot tubs, etc. for at least 24 hours as these activities can increase swelling.
Keep the treated area clean with a mild skin cleanser.
For electrolysis treatment on the face, try not to apply make-up for at least 24 hours. If you must wear make-up, mineral make-up is your best option. First apply an antibiotic ointment.
